Koach runs in the browser, but it does not have to look like it. Adding it to your home screen gives you an icon next to your other apps, opens full screen with no address bar, and keeps you signed in between sessions. Nothing is downloaded from an app store, and it takes about two minutes.
The steps differ by phone, so pick yours below.
iPhone and iPad
You must do this in Safari. Other browsers on iOS can open Koach perfectly well, but Apple only lets Safari put a real web app on your home screen.
- Open koach.equival.io in Safari.
- Tap the Share button - the square with an arrow pointing up, in the toolbar at the bottom of the screen (or top-right on iPad).
- Scroll down the share sheet and tap Add to Home Screen. If you do not see it, scroll further - it sits below the row of apps, in the list of actions.
- The name Koach is already filled in. Tap Add.
The icon appears on your home screen. Open it from there from now on, not from Safari - that is what gives you the full-screen version.
Android
Most Android phones use Chrome, and Chrome usually offers this by itself.
- Open koach.equival.io in Chrome.
- If a bar appears at the bottom offering to install Koach, tap Install and you are done.
- If it does not appear, tap the ⋮ menu in the top-right corner and choose Install app (older versions call it Add to Home screen).
- Confirm with Install.
Koach lands in your app drawer and on your home screen, and Android treats it like any other app - it shows up in the app switcher with its own window.
Samsung Internet, Edge and Firefox all offer the same thing under their own menus, usually worded Add page to → Home screen or Install.
What you get, and what you don't
Installed, Koach opens full screen, keeps you signed in, and remembers your place. Screens you have already opened will still render if your connection drops, and a banner tells you when you are offline.
What it will not do offline is save anything. Logging a meal, finishing a set, or recording a check-in all need a connection - Koach never writes those to the phone and syncs them later. If you are somewhere with no signal, do the logging when you are back in range.
When it goes wrong
- "Add to Home Screen" is missing on iPhone. You are almost certainly in Chrome, Firefox or another browser rather than Safari, or inside an in-app browser (a link opened from Instagram or WhatsApp). Open the page in Safari itself and try again.
- Chrome never offers to install. Chrome only offers it once it is satisfied the page is a real app and you have actually used it. Use the ⋮ menu route instead - it always works.
- I installed it twice. Deleting the extra icon is safe. Your data lives in your account, not on the phone, so nothing is lost either way.
- The icon opens Safari/Chrome instead of a full-screen app. That is a bookmark, not an installed app - it happens if you tapped Add Bookmark rather than Add to Home Screen. Delete it and repeat the steps above.
- Is there an App Store or Play Store version? Not yet. The native iOS app is in progress; until it ships, the home screen version is the way to run Koach like an app.
